September 2023 — Today: Emergency Initiative for Communities Affected by Flooding After Daniel & Elias Natural Disasters

Six months after the devastating floods in Thessaly, there are still serious issues that need to be resolved. One of these issues is the support of older people in the affected areas.

At the initiative of Emfasis Non-Profit, an Civil Non-Profit Organization, based in Attica, a meeting with Associations and Voluntary Groups of the Municipality of Mouzaki took place on Thursday 14 March. At this meeting, issues concerning elderly people living in the villages of the Municipality of Mouzaki and affected by the floods last September were analyzed.

The result of this meeting was to create a network of organizations, associations and volunteers, which will deal with elderly people affected by floods and families in the care of elderly people. There is the possibility, in addition to the material assistance that can be provided, with the partnership of the Associations and the Emfasis Non-Profit, to provide psychosocial and legal counseling.

The action plan discussed includes visits to flood-affected villages, systematic mapping of the needs — especially of the elderly — and counselling services to residents.

The meeting was attended by members of the AMKE ITAMOS MOUZAKI, a representative of the Cooperation of Associations of the Municipality of Mouzaki for the Flood Victims, a representative of the Association of Women and the President of the Municipal Council of Mouzaki.

Emfasis Non-Profit's Social Worker, Mrs. Sofia Santorinaiou analyzed the plan of action of the Organization, aimed at the authoritative information/information, the mental restoration of the elderly affected by natural disasters, preserving their emancipation and dignity. At the same time, the project aims to perpetuate rights, improve the daily lives of people aged 3 and 4, as well as develop a relationship of trust with local bodies in the wider regions.
